Special Offerings

Each year, in addition to our regularly budgeted line items, our congregation collects three special mission offerings. Recipients of the offerings are decided by the Mission Action Committee and the Congregational Council.

Spring Mission Offering

In March, we will collect our annual Spring offering. Each year the funds collected are distributed to one or two agencies involved in some area of home missions or local ministry. This year our emphasis is the America for Christ Offering, which is used for caring ministries, discipleship, intercultural ministries, and evangelism and new church planting.

Hunger Offering

Each autumn we collect money and canned goods to help alleviate the problem of hunger in our city and around the world. In 2009, the canned goods were donated to Second Harvest Food Bank, and the funds were given to Baptist World Aid for emergency hunger relief and long-term projects to prevent hunger.

Global Missions Offering

Each December we have a special offering to provide direct support for missionaries serving around the world. In 2009, the proceeds were divided between the Bridges of Hope Offering of the Alliance of Baptists and the Global Missions Offering of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.

Agencies We Support

The following are agencies that receive funding as line-item designations in our annual budget. Our Mission Action Committee reviews this list every year to determine the level of support we offer each organization.

Baptist Friendship House

Offers transitional housing for homeless women and families, as well as a day center with programs to serve the homeless and needy on the edge of the Bywater area, just past the French Quarter. Our regular financial and hands-on support helps Friendship House and its ministries continue. More about BFH is available at www.bfh.lifewaylink.com.

Carver and Rachel Sims Centers

These two Baptist Community Centers in New Orleans’ Irish Channel serve the children and families of this needy neighborhood. With after school programs, tutoring, food pantries and other important ministries, these centers are hubs of healthy community development. We participate in a various ways to support these centers. For more information, go to www.neworleansbaptistministries.org.

New Orleans Faith Health Alliance

NOFHA is a free-standing, private non-profit organization providing affordable health care for uninsured workers and their families in the Greater New Orleans region. Our church members are excited to be a part of this new ministry to assist those who are hurting. See www.nofha.org for more information about this vital ministry.

Second Harvest Food Bank

There is a growing need for the services of Second Harvest Food Bank, both for families and for shelters. Our members provide financial support as well as hands-on assistance through workdays and food drives. Our latest drive resulted in 1200 pounds of food collected—our best effort yet!
