Special Offerings ~ Agencies We Support ~ Other Agencies

There are many other agencies we support through our prayers and hands-on work. To learn more about these efforts, click the links below:

Special Offerings

Each year, in addition to our regularly budgeted line items, our congregation collects three special mission offerings. Recipients of the offerings are decided by the Mission Action Committee and the Congregational Council.

Spring Mission Offering

Usually collected in May, the Spring Mission Offering has a different emphasis each year. In 2005, the offering was dedicated to Habitat Unity House IV.

Hunger Offering

In October and November, we collect money and canned goods to help alleviate the problem of hunger in our city and around the world. On the Sunday before Thanksgiving we collect canned goods and "rice bowl banks" and pass along our offerings to agencies we support. In 2004 year, Second Harvester Food Bank received several hundred pounds of canned goods as a result of this offering. Funding recipients were Baptist World Aid and Bread for the World.

Global Missions Offering

Each December we collect an offering to support mission and ministry around the world.

Habitat Unity House

In 1999, 2001, 2003, and 2005, our church participated with seven other congregations to fund and build a Habitat House. Each church is responsible for a portion of the needs funds, contributes several workers for each workday, and takes turns providing lunch for the workers.

Agencies We Support

The following are agencies that receive funding as line-item designations in our annual budget. Our Mission Action Committee reviews this list every year to determine the level of support we offer each organization.

Baptist Friendship House

Offers transitional housing for homeless women and families, as well as a day center with programs to serve the homeless and needy on the edge of the Bywater area, just past the French Quarter. A mission of the North American Mission Board, our regular financial and hands-on support helps Friendship House and its ministries continue.

Carver and Rachel Sims Centers

These two Baptist Community Centers in New Orleans' Irish Channel serve the children and families of this needy neighborhood. With after school programs, tutoring, food pantry and other important ministries, these centers are hubs for healthy community development. We participate in a variety of efforts to support these centers.
